Built by the people who needed it.
PhonoLogic was born when a teacher and a parent got tired of the same problem: spending hours creating reading practice that actually matched what a child was learning. So, we built the tool we wished we had.
Our team.
Built by people who've lived the problem.
Stephen Robins
Stephen holds an MBA in Entrepreneurship and Strategy from IE Business School and leads our strategy and go-to-market. PhonoLogic began as his MBA project, after years of watching his wife Marysia spend hours hunting for texts that matched the exact phonics patterns her students had been taught.
Joey Drury
Joey is our founding engineer. He turned Stephen and Marysia's classroom problem into working software, and keeps everything from our phonics engine to our story generation running day to day. He comes from a family of educators, and brings a background in analytics and technology strategy.
Marysia Robins
Marysia is a special education teacher and literacy interventionist trained in Orton-Gillingham methodology, with seven years in classrooms leading co-teaching and structured-literacy work. PhonoLogic grew out of the hours she spent hunting for decodable texts, and our scope, sequence, and assessments are all built on her methodology.
Marriam Khan
Marriam is our Chief Science Officer. She leads our research and our partnerships with universities, and works alongside Marysia to keep our methods rooted in the science of reading. Her focus is making sure what we build genuinely helps children learn to read.
Mitch Boutilier
Mitch is PhonoLogic's Director of Software Engineering. He builds and maintains the systems behind the product, keeping story generation secure, fast and reliable. As a parent and adult educator, Mitch believes literacy rates are fundamental to improving our children's future.
What we believe.
The convictions that shape every decision we make.
Reading is not a talent. It's a learned skill that quietly shapes almost everything else a child can do.
Children deserve access to knowledge beyond what's spoken in the room around them.
Reading protects against misinformation and exploitation.
Reading is a fundamental life skill, and the adults supporting it deserve tools that make good practice easier.
Who we serve, and how.
Every child who struggles to read deserves the same thing — and our job is to make giving it to them effortless.
Who we serve
Some kids have dyslexia. Others got inconsistent instruction, or texts that didn't match what they'd already been taught. Whatever the reason, every child deserves:
Explicit, systematic instruction in how written language works
Texts that match what they can actually decode, regardless of grade level
Time to practise at their own pace
Adults who treat a reading struggle as information about instruction, not a verdict on the child
How we do it
Three commitments behind every story PhonoLogic builds.
We respect your scope and sequence
Every story validates each word against the phonics patterns a student has actually been taught, so skills transfer from structured lessons into real reading.
Story quality matters as much as accuracy
A story might be about a new friend, a small problem at recess, or something that felt scary before it didn't. Phonics gives a story its shape, but the story is what gets kids to read the next one.
We give educators time back
Our tools reduce preparation time while improving the quality and precision of reading practice at home or in the classroom.
