Updated March 31, 2026

About This Policy

This Cookie Policy explains how PhonoLogic Learning Systems Inc. ("PhonoLogic," "we," "us," or "our") uses cookies, localStorage, sessionStorage, and similar technologies on phonologic.ca and all related subdomains. PhonoLogic is an AI-powered phonics education platform designed for parents, teachers, and students.

We are a Canadian company and comply with Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) and the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). Where analytics or marketing cookies are used, we obtain your express, informed consent before placing them on your device. [REVIEW WITH LAWYER]

What Are Cookies and Similar Technologies?

A cookie is a small text file that a website stores on your computer or device. Cookies help the site remember your preferences, keep you logged in, and understand how you use the site.

We also use two browser-based storage mechanisms:

  • localStorage -- stores data on your device with no expiration date. It stays until you clear it manually or through your browser settings.
  • sessionStorage -- stores data only for the duration of your browser tab. It is automatically cleared when you close the tab.

None of these technologies can run programs on your device or access files outside your browser.

How We Use Cookies

We use cookies and browser storage for four purposes:

  • Essential/Authentication -- keeping you securely logged in and protecting your account.
  • Preferences -- remembering your display settings like dark mode or high-contrast mode.
  • Analytics -- understanding how people use PhonoLogic so we can improve the product (requires your consent).
  • Marketing -- measuring whether our ads are reaching the right audience (requires your consent).

Children's Data and Cookies [REVIEW WITH LAWYER]

PhonoLogic is used by children learning to read, and we take special care with their data.

  • Essential cookies only for children. When a child profile is the active profile, only the essential authentication cookies listed above are in use. These are strictly necessary for the platform to function.
  • No analytics or marketing cookies target children. Analytics and marketing cookies (Google Analytics, Meta Pixel) operate at the account level and are tied to the parent or teacher who created the account -- not to individual child profiles. These cookies are only active if the account holder has provided consent.
  • No behavioral advertising. We do not use cookies to build advertising profiles of children, serve targeted ads to children, or track children across other websites.
  • Preference storage is device-level. Dark mode and high-contrast settings stored in localStorage apply to the device, not to any individual child. No personal information about the child is stored in localStorage or sessionStorage.

For more information about how we handle children's data, please see our Privacy Policy.

Your Consent and CASL Compliance [REVIEW WITH LAWYER]

In accordance with Canada's Anti-Spam Legislation (CASL) and PIPEDA:

  • Essential cookies do not require consent. They are strictly necessary for the site to function.
  • Analytics and marketing cookies require your express, informed consent. When you first visit PhonoLogic, a cookie consent banner will appear. Analytics and marketing cookies are not placed until you actively accept them.
  • You can change your mind at any time. To withdraw consent or change your cookie preferences, click the "Cookie Settings" link in the footer of any page. This will re-open the consent banner.
  • Implied consent does not apply. Simply browsing the site does not constitute consent for analytics or marketing cookies. Only essential cookies and preference storage are used without explicit consent.

How to Manage Cookies

Using our cookie consent banner: The simplest way to manage analytics and marketing cookies is through our consent banner. Click "Cookie Settings" in the site footer at any time to update your preferences.

Using your browser settings: All major browsers let you view, delete, and block cookies. Keep in mind that blocking essential cookies will prevent you from logging in to PhonoLogic.

Clearing localStorage and sessionStorage: These can be cleared through your browser's developer tools or by clearing all site data in your browser settings. On most browsers, go to Settings, then Privacy or Site Settings, then find phonologic.ca and choose "Clear data."

Please note: disabling a cookie category does not delete cookies already on your device. You will need to clear them separately through your browser.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this Cookie Policy from time to time. If we make material changes, we will notify you through the site (for example, via a banner or notice on your dashboard) before the changes take effect. The "Updated" date at the top of this page always reflects the latest version.
